AUTHOR VISITS, APPEARANCES, AND EVENTS

I have worked with all ages, quite literally, from pre-K through college undergrad, both as an arts educator and as a presenter. Presenting to kids and students face-to-face is one of my favorite parts about what I do. Schools, libraries, festivals, yet-to-be-imagined events — we can talk about how to craft the most engaging and impactful visit for your audience.

FAQ

  1. How do your presentations work?

Presentation structure and content will shift depending on the age group. For younger students, typically I will take time to do an interactive read aloud of one of my books, then talk a little bit about my job as a writer and artist. I like to follow with an art demo, Q&A, and time for book signing. For older students, I focus on showing my artistic process, both for my writing and visual arts practices.

  2. Do you hold activities during your visits?

Depending on how much time is allotted for the presentation and the size of the group! These activities would typically be both book and art related. I also create an Educator’s Guide for each of my titles that can be of aid if teachers or event directors want to build their own lesson plans and activities around a visit.

  3. How long are your presentations and what size audience can be accomodated?

My presentations often run 45 minutes long, but can be shortened or extended relative to the time that we have available. I have presented to small groups of 12-20 in more intimate settings, as well as groups of 250-300 in gyms and auditoriums; this will be dependent on the space you have available, as well as what type of visit you would like to host.

  4. What age range do you present to?

I have ample experience presenting to Elementary, Middle School, and Undergrad classes. My presentation will take significantly different shapes with every group.

  5. What are your fees?

I charge an honorarium, but try my best to work with programs and schools to make visits financially feasible. If you have genuine interest in a presentation or author visit, reach out to schoolandlibrary@harpercollins.com to find out more.
